About and data sources
Bharat Decoded explains how India is governed. It is an independent project and has no connection to any government body.
Where the facts come from
- Election Commission of India: Terms of the Houses: Assembly, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha seats.
- Parliament of India: State Legislatures: legislature type, and the capital, taken from the seat of the legislature. Where summer and winter seats are listed, the first is shown. Some native names (Hindi) also come from here.
- Local Government Directory, Ministry of Panchayati Raj: number of districts and some native names.
- Cabinet Secretariat: Allocation of Business Rules: the list of ministries and their names.
- Union Territory of Lakshadweep: the capital of Lakshadweep.
"—" means we have no sourced value yet. We leave a field empty rather than guess. Office-holders such as Chief Ministers and Governors will be added later, each with an "as of" date.
How it stays up to date
A script re-fetches each fact from its source once a month. Large changes and failed fetches are held for a person to review instead of being published. Vehicle registration codes and the Lok Sabha seat count for Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu are checked by hand.
Maps
Maps of India will appear here once the Survey of India boundary data is in place. No other map data is used.
Language
The site is in English for now. Hindi and Kannada are planned.
